Attic To Family/Play Room Remodel

Three old servant bedrooms and several storage spaces in the attic of a 120-year-old house were combined into a family play/media room with a wet bar (other areas were altered to create a bedroom, an office, and two bathrooms. All but one wall was moved. Here we show the family room, for which Wright & Robinson Architects designed the millwork elements. A combination of quarter sawn white oak veneer and solid wood were used to continue the historic nature of this grand Glen Ridge home. The built-in media cabinet incorporates toy storage and display shelf, and integrated radiator covers at each end. The paired scrolls at each end make child-scaled thrones and shelter the TV. This grand cabinet resembles an old train-station bench. The banquette has a zinc tabletop; the wet bar a concrete countertop with an integral sink. The banquette seats and seat-back are proportioned and formed as antique church pews and are quite comfortable without cushions.
